Shanghai 2006

It was a working trip in November 2006.

Firstly, I am proud to tell everyone that I've traveled on the world fastest train. The Maglev Train. The trip is from the Shanghai Pudong airport to the city ....very short one mehhh....less than 10 mins....8 minutes to be exact.....with a speed of 431km/h...no kidding..check the photo that i snapped.

Because of the boring details of this working trip...we shall skip to the interesting parts.....and that is shopping....hehehehe. a must if u went to shanghai....is to shop. initially i dun plan to buy anything except souvenirs for those lucky ppl. but the temptation is too much....ehehehe.
  • the imitation bags...(manage to grab one of each- prada, coach n LV....sound very kaya...but kayap actually....cheap mehhhhhh......)
  • Burberry winter jacket
  • GAP cashmere cardigan + top
  • embroidered bed linen....i bought 3 sets...never used once till now...cantik sgt....
  • healing balls-(2 ceramic balls when rub it on each other it actually help to release stress)
  • silk purses
  • oil painting
  • Wool pashmina
  • Traditional chinese outfit for Yaya
  • Silk embroidered cloth (i framed it...anyone understand Chinese?? need to know what do these characters means)
Then after shopping, come the foods. Actually halal food is not a problem over there...in china, most of the chinese muslim came from the central part of china...near mongolia... (err i think so...my geography sucks..)...so over there mutton are very fofular....and same apply in Shanghai....most of the halal restaurant we went during the first few days serve mutton as their main course...so after eating a lot of kambing golek or what ever dishes related to kambing....my nose and my stomach cannot stand any more....so we requested normal and simple chinese food.....and fortunately for us we found this small halal noodle shop just across our hotel.....i just manage to tape the noodle making....the noodle eating bukan untuk tontonan umum....hehehe..
oh ya...the guy making the noodle is just 16/17 yrs old....very young n quite cute jugak...

i remember eating a very simple appetizer... slices of fresh cucumber drizzle with sesame oil and fresh garlic....very tasty....once we also tried middle eastern cuisine...the taste...okay lor....
I apologized on the lack of pics on foods. During this trip I just did not have the mood to snap pics. Dunno why....maybe because your mind is on the work...boringnyeee.....

we also managed to catch an acrobatic show.....the show combine both the traditional n modern acrobats...the lighting and the music are just great....it just exceeded my expectations...would recommend it to those who plan to visit Shanghai....

on our second last day we went to this very old city....it is a one hour drive from the hotel.......here, they don't have roads for cars to go through...only alleys and canals...very traditional...very old China..
the souvenirs were really cheaps...and we had the chance to take a ride in one of the boats..ours is being rowed by this nice lady....she sing too....but aku bagi satu bintang jek....for the efforts ....suara out!!!! hehehehe
Other highlights......Yu Yuan Garden..400 year old classical Chinese garden in the Old Town of Shanghai... we stayed at the modern city of Shanghai...so..it is quite a drive away...here the souvenirs is more expensive..but if you did not have any plan to go to the outskirts....then here is the best place to do any last minute shopping. And remember people....haggle all you want..if not, you kena kelentong jek....my tips is start at 70% of the offered price and try to stick to it....this tip does not apply if you went outskirts....only in the city. At night all the building in this area is light up....very nice....

Language is definitely a barrier...in order from you to go to one place...you need to ask someone from to hotel to write the name of the place in Chinese for your cab driver to understand...and take you.

Oh ya...did I tell you we went for foot reflexology? here, they do it quite differently...first they soak it in hot water fill with sumthing...soap..salt...i dunno...they talk chinese....then they dabbed your feet and start putting some oil...and then the magic hand start working...the feeling was very relaxing. they'll end the massage with a shoulder and head massage. We went 3 or 4 times at nite after a long day work for these coz the price is around RM 20 ringgit for an hour foot massage. and it just across the street from our hotel..near the noodle shop....worth every penny. i sleep like a baby....ZZzzzz...
